Description

I've made fanstamps of all the pound dogs from Disney's Lady and the Tramp, because they all need more love <3

Boris is first because he's my favorite. I was ecstatic when I rewatched the movie and realized Disney had made a Borzoi, because they're my favorite breed of dog, and then he turned out to be such a sweetie and I fell completely in love with him.

FUN FACTS
:bulletblue: In the earlier stages of the movie production, there was a love triangle between Lady, Tramp, and Boris
:bulletblue: During his brief dialogue, Boris refers to Lady affectionately as “orchechornya” and “bublichki”. “Orchechornya” is a Russian folk song, and “bublichki” is apparently the Russian word for bagels (as well as a Jewish song from the 1920s).
:bulletblue: The name Boris is thought to derive from a Turkic word meaning “wolf” – very fitting, considering his breed.
:bulletblue: Until 1936, Americans referred to the Borzoi as the Russian Wolfhound.
:bulletblue: The Borzoi, or борзый (Borzáya) in the original Russian, was highly prized by the Czars, who used them in teams of three (two males and a female) to hunt wolves. The dogs would pursue the wolf, attack its neck from both sides, and hold it until the hunter arrived. In earlier times, the human hunter would then kill the wolf, but in later hunts the wolves were bound and soon released (similar to the Native American practice of counting coup). Some Czars owned hundreds of Borzoi, and commonly gave them as political gifts. This practice proved to be invaluable in saving the breed from extinction when Borzoi were slaughtered as symbols of Czarism in the wake of the Russian Revolution.
:bulletblue: The more common variety of Borzoi is the short-haired Hortaya Borzaya, which are highly valued hunting dogs on the steppes. The long-haired Psovaya Borzaya is currently going through a hard period of restoration of its working qualities after decades of shadow, mainly show existence.

I only discovered this movie a month or so ago. I can't believe I'd been missing out! (It's about time I saw more than the spaghetti scene out of context.)
Out of the pound dogs, I'd say Boris, Pedro and Peg are my favorites. The song is my favorite too, although it's tough to choose between it and "Bella Notte". Boris is funny in that he briefly satirizes cynical Russian philosophy (as far as I know) in cheerful manner.

Did you know that the bass singer in the scene is Thurl Ravenscroft, the voice of Tony the Tiger and the guy who sang "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch"? Not to mention all the voices he did for Disneyland rides...
